  • Trichogramma – insects of the genus of parasitic egg-eaters, belong to the order Hymenoptera. An adult does not exceed 1 mm, has a dense black or yellow-brown body. Trichogramma lays eggs in freshly laid eggs of pests, thereby completely exterminating harmful insects until the caterpillars appear. At the same time, adults of Trichogramma, eating nectar, are completely safe for plants.

One female can lay up to 80 eggs per clutch, the process of hatching a new generation can take up to 14 days. Up to 400 thousand pieces (3-8 grams per 1 hectare) of Trichogramma eggs are applied per hectare, depending on the type of crop and the degree of pest infestation. The radius of action of the trichogram is up to 16 meters, the application takes place at 150 points per hectare.

  • Effect of the temperature on development

    5 ºС 16 ºС 25 ºС 30 ºС

    Larva 15 days 5 days 3 days 2,1 days
    Prepupa 26 days 8 days 3,1 days 1,5-2 days
    Pupa 22 days 3 days 3,1 days 3-3,5 days
In total 64 days 17 days 11 days 8,3-9,3 days

To successfully combat harmful insects with the help of egg-eaters, you must remember the following. Trichogramma achaeae lives in the field for five to six days, and lays eggs in the first two days of its life. Therefore, an important factor in the effective control of lepidoptera pests is their quality daily monitoring at the expected peak of flight. If you introduce a trichogramma earlier, before the meadow moth or scoop lays eggs, it will work and look for pest eggs, but most of it will die without giving offspring. If you are late with the introduction of Trichgram for several days, there will also be problems with its work and efficiency, since it does not infect caterpillars, and eggs in which the embryos are already at the last stage of development (before the caterpillar leaves the egg).
